The Siria Valley
The Siria Valley is located in the department of Francisco Morazán (a few hours from Tegucigalpa, the capital of Honduras). Between 2000 and 2010, the mining company "Entre mares de Honduras" exploited the area in search of gold.
In clear negligence, "Entre mares de Honduras" poisoned the water, and many miles of healthy land, with metals; many residents began to suffer from strange diseases. The company dried up rivers, killed the forest and nearby ecosystems.
As a result, land ceased to be useful and many had to migrate (to other cities in Honduras or to United States).
This report was created in collaboration with OXFAM to ask the honduran government for a change in legislation.
